Gal Pals Week in Greece

Comin' at you live from my Athens - Bratislava flight! I'm on my way home from a seriously AMAZING week in Greece with 7 of my best friends and I. We've been dreaming about and planning for this trip for years, and it definitely lived up to all of our expectations.

Our first stop was a funky Airbnb by the Athens airport - which was one of the most interesting Airbnb's I've ever stayed in. This is due to the 70-year-old Greek man that lived under our apartment whom we dubbed "Papa Greece". He insisted on accompanying us not only to dinner, but to our entire beach day. He even brought a blow-up boat in which he rowed us around the bay in! Later on that day, he invited us down to his kitchen to taste all of the different Greek jams and jellies he owned. He was seriously the cutest and most caring man, and wanted to hang out with us even though he spoke very limited English.

Papa Greece rowing us around in his yacht (almost).

Next, we all hopped on over to Mykonos - an island known for its all-night beach parties and pristine old town. It was technically off season while we were there so things weren't too bumpin', but holy cow did we see some stunning views. We stayed in a villa a good distance out from the old town that required a seriously daring drive over steep hills and on the sides of cliffs to get there.

We spent a day walking around Mykonos Town shopping, eating, and just enjoying each other's company for the first time in too long. Mykonos' old town is exactly what you picture when you think of stereotypical white-washed Grecian buildings. Luckily, it wasn't too crowded when we went, because the streets were super narrow. This day was SUPER windy - by the end we were all clamoring for a hair brush (as many of our pictures from here clearly show).

The next day, we went to Super Paradise beach club for some much-needed R&R. It was much less windy and much warmer this day, which we were super happy about. We didn't do much but kick back on our loungers, napping and lazing in the sun all day. My favorite part about this beach was how they had a DJ laying down some perfect beach tunes the whole time we were there. I bet that place is super fun in the summer when it's packed with people ready to dance!

The view from our villa in Mykonos!

Our next and much-awaited destination was the romantic Santorini, which I've been gaping at pictures of on the internet for years. I seriously believe that pictures can't do this place justice - the cliffs were taller and views more stunning than I could have ever imagined.

In Santorini, we stayed in Fira, the town known for its touristy hustle and bustle and shopping left and right. Compared to Mykonos, our Airbnb was amidst all the action, which was super convenient and a nice change of pace. One day, we rented beach buggies and ATVs to ride around the island on. It was amazingly scenic and we had an incredible end destination - an unforgettable black sand beach lined with cute restaurants and comfy beach loungers.

On our last day in Santorini, we voyaged over to the town of Oia. This is the town that you picture when you think of Santorini, with its perfect white-and-blue buildings lining the hillside. We spent the day walking around and simply taking in the unforgettable scenery. It was much hotter here than in Mykonos, resulting in some serious dehydration and red shoulders - but it was all worth it for the amazing views and quality time we got to spend together.

Doesn't get much better than this

Greece was absolutely amazing (except for the insane stomach cramps I had the whole time - don't even think about brushing your teeth with the water there!), and I'm already dreaming about the day that I get to hop on a flight back here.  Next time, I'd like to explore a more remote and less touristy island on top of Mykonos and Santorini. I'm going to be having dreams about Greece's crystal blue water for weeks!
